(Retailer) CDUK – us – we’re trying to create everyday wear made by people earning a living wage and using sustainable materials. Designed to be accessible (sizes XS-XXL but if we’re missing a size please let us know) and affordable to everyone.

(Supplier) No Sweat – is a grassroots campaign that builds solidarity among workers’ worldwide. We look to global social justice movements and to the international workers’ movement to build common, united, campaigning action against workplace exploitation and the sweatshop bosses. Certified Living wage employer.

(Producer) Oporajeo – Oporajeo (Invincible) was launched after the Rana Plaza disaster on April 24, 2013, to create job opportunities for some of the survivors as rehabilitation. “Oporajeo is completely owned by the workers. They are paid remunerations as per market rate. On top of that 50% of the profit is equally distributed among them. From the rest 50% of the profit, a percentage is utilized to support the workers’ children education and the rest amount is kept for different operational costs.” (Image source: Oporajeo Facebook page)

(Supplier) Get A Grip – Europe’s most sustainable t-shirt and garment printing company. Global Organic Textile Standard certified and PETA-approved vegan (related to their studio as apposed to our products). studio is powered by renewable energy and we invest in the most energy-efficient machinery available. Only waterbased inks are used and no waste goes to landfill it is used to produce electricity.

(Producer) Continental Clothing – Fair Share range, products showing the Fair Share label carry a small price premium that is passed directly on to the garment workers in India towards their Living Wage. Fair trade & Global Organic Textile Standard certified cotton is used.

The Story

"We aim to create affordable everyday wear, using sustainable materials while only working with projects that provide stable employment with a fair wage to their workers."

While helping to run the social enterprise Bambooka (selling Bamboo sunglasses and donating the profits to charity) I discovered the ethical fashion space as Bambooka was aligned with many of the aspects being discussed.

Through exploration I learnt about the devastating effect the fashion industry is having on the lives of the people making our clothes and the environment, with people being made to work in conditions that constitute modern slavery and polluting from the factories leading to debilitating health issues for children and newborn babies in the communities that surround the factories.

I started making changes with my personal fashion choices relying on buying second-hand but when I looked to buy new from sustainable and ethical brands I found they were either too expensive or too niche for my taste.

CDUK aims to create affordable everyday wear, using sustainable materials while only working with projects that provide stable employment with a fair wage to their workers. I understand creating another t-shirt brand isn’t going to solve the wider issues, I hope through our drive to be accessible to all we will become a gateway into learning about the issues within the fashion industry.
